PGY 1/ EM Emphasis Internship
This
year provides the young clinician with a firm foundation of how the hospital and
all its specialties interact and function. This year allows the resident to
gain exposure to Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, Surgery, Radiology, Critical Care
and 3 months of Emergency Medicine. This broad exposure to multiple specialties
gives the intern a firm knowledge of what will be expected of him/her while in
the emergency department. The intern gains a clear understanding of how
important the Gate Keepers of Emergency Medicine are. Interns function as the
primary physician, coordinating proper care of the patient after leaving the ED
and prior to being evaluated by attendings. Interns will also serve as first
responder on Code Blues and other emergent cases throughout the hospital. They
will gain proficiency in emergent procedures such as Endotracheal intubation,
Central Line placement, ACLS protocols and management of general medical
emergencies. For more information, please browse the
Internship at Garden City Hospital page.
