The Adolescent Respite Room: Supporting Youth in Crisis
Emergency departments are increasingly caring for adolescents in mental health crisis, yet a shortage of behavioral health beds often forces youth to wait—sometimes for days—for placement.
​To help address this, Independent Emergency Physicians (IEP) provided funding for the Adolescent Respite Room at the Henry Ford Jackson Jackson emergency department. This calming, private space provides essential comforts for youth and families while they await transfer, including a shower, space for eating with families, quiet activities like reading or gaming, and a safe place to rest.

Most importantly, it honors the dignity of patients and families facing one of the most vulnerable moments in their lives—bringing compassion and humanity to a time often marked by uncertainty and fear.
